Pure Water Technology has recently
expanded our O3 product to include ozonation on our Pure Water 2's
and our Pure Water 3's.
Ozone Q& A
What is Ozone?
 |
Technically ozone (O3)
is activated oxygen, another molecular form of oxygen (O2)
that can be used as a strong oxidizer. In fact, ozone is reported
to be 1 1/2 times stronger and up to 3,000 times faster than
chlorine.
|
 |
Ozone is a
chemical-free water treatment method that uses the same electrical
process that lightning uses to purify air during a storm.
|
Why is ozone better than
chlorine?
 |
In the quantities
needed for water purification, it is not irritating to humans or
equipment. It purifies water and air quickly and efficiently. Its
primary by product is life giving oxygen. In contrast, chlorine
leaves a dangerous chemical called hydrochloric acid and
additional salts in water. It is also accused of creating
carcinogenic by-products called trihalomethanes (THM's). The EPA
is beginning to impose strict standards on THM levels allowed in
water treatment plants. Ozone does not produce THM's, it actually
prevents them.
|
 |
Additionally, ozone
kills viruses and bacteria on contact, precipitates metals,
deodorizes, removes unpleasant tastes and colors, leaves no
residue, reduces scale information, kills algea, mold and yeast
spores. And, since ozone dissolves rapidly, and then quickly
reverts to oxygen, your water will be oxygen rich.
|
Is ozone technology new? Where
else is ozone used?
 |
Ozone for drinking
water purification has been used in Europe since the late 1800's.
In the United States, over 70 municipal water treatment plants
already use ozone, including the 580 million gallon per day Los
Angeles facility. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA)
requires ozonation before bottling.
|
Isn't ozone the same as smog?
 |
NO. Smog is air
pollution created by combustion polluters. Smog is largely
composed of harmful chemicals like carbon monoxide. ozone is
composed of three oxygen atoms and exists in the ozone layer,
protecting us from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. In fact,
smog and other pollutants such as Chloro-Flouro Carbons (CFC's)
have proven to contribute to ozone layer damage.
|
How long does ozone last in
the water?
 |
Ozone has a half-life
of 20 minutes when injected into the water. It then converts back
to oxygen. Ozone must be generated continuously on-site to be
effective.
|
What is the Pure Water 1
effective against?
 |
The Pure Water 1 can
safely reduce or eliminate bacteria, viruses, algae spores, fungi,
mold, yeast spores, heavy metals, iron manganese, sulfur, color,
odor, scale build-up and staining. And the Pure water 1's primary
by-product is oxygen.
|
Why is the Pure Water 1 better
than a distillation system?
 |
Distillation systems
require three to five killowatt-hours to produce each gallon of
water, at a cost of $0.36 per gallon, it tends to be acidic, and
routine maintenance is required. Distilled water also tastes flat. |
